Experience of a Student Practice Educator
The Social Work team at Middlesex University organised a ‘Thank you’ breakfast on Thursday 26 May 2018 for all the Practice Educators who have kindly supported Middlesex Social Work students this year during their placements.
Thanks to our wonderful Practice Educators, we achieved 94 initial placements and 87 final placements, a truly outstanding feat!
One of the attendees at the breakfast was Margaret Katende, a Social Worker within Adults Social Services in the London Borough of Barnet. Margaret, reflecting on her experience as a Student Practice Educator with her first ever student, said:
“I found the PE course challenging; I had just finished Middlesex University’s Best Interest Assessor module and people were doubtful about me taking on the PE course too, but with encouragement from my colleague Jude (who also successfully completed the PE course with me), I applied.
I found the first part of the placement intense as there’s a lot to take in, but it got better. The tutors were excellent and my student was good, picking up things very quickly.
My best moments as a student Practice Educator were supervision sessions with my student. We would both leave the session feeling charged up! I also enjoyed coming to the University and getting support from my peers.”
