Domestic violence – working with children and families
Working with domestic violence in a family situation can be complex and pose challenges. It is important that we understand the complicated systematic dynamics of domesticabuse and intervene in a way that does not inadvertently increase risk.
This full day session aims to:
- Increase understanding of what is domestic abuse: cross government definition, theories and models, and abusive dynamics;
- Review relevant legislation, guidance and policies that help inform practice;
- How to screen for and respond effectively to domesticviolence, decreasing risk and increasing safety;
- Increase understanding of the impact of domestic violenceon children, young people, victims and on parenting;
- Intervening safely with children, victims and perpetrators.
